Jennie has been a Nyack-based artist for over 20 years. She works primarily in clay but also casts bronze, and occasionally explores the two-dimensional.
In the exhibit “WORKS” , in addition to the pieces with her trademark nails incorporated, she is showing works from her different series, which include: The Black Dog (Chien Noir), Nine Dots, Spirit Houses, Ganesha, and The Memron Project.
Jennie is showing a new work — her Selfie Triad. She invites you to take a Selfie with her as a memory of her years in Nyack
Born in Macao, but raised here, I am an East/West hybrid. I am inspired by Jungian archetypal imagery. Archetypes are the elemental symbols and ideas that exist in the collective unconscious. My work is often spiritual and meditative, inspired by Buddhism, Shintoism and Hinduism. I try to instill qi (Chinese: energy) and wabi-sabi (Japanese: flawed beauty) into my work.
Jennie Chien is a Nyack-based sculptor, inspired by archetypal images and symbols. She works primarily in ceramics and in bronze. Winner of three NYFA SOS Grants, the 2009 County Executive Award for Visual Artist, and three NYSCA Individual Artist Grants (2009, 2016, 2018). Jennie has served on many Rockland County committees and panels. She has more than 25 awards for graphic design excellence and an MBA from Stanford University.
